Can I Look up My Driver’s License Number Online?: You Should Know

Last Updated on September 14, 2022 by John Robinson

The easiest way to get your number is to call up your license record.

You can either do so by contacting your local DMV office, or you can get it through the records online. Just go to the Sarathi website and look for ‘status of my driver’s’ license. It will ask you for your date of birth, ID and the current state you’re living in. After you hit submit it should show your records, plus your license number.

How do I get a new license if I lost mine?

You’ll have to head on over to the DMV to issue a duplicate. Make sure you have the following information on hand:

  • Your driver license or identification card number.
  • Your date of birth.
  • The last four digits of your social security number.
  • The audit number from your most recently issued card.

I have not received my license in the allotted time, How do I find out where it is?

Usually, it can take up to 12 weeks for a license to arrive. If you’ve been waiting longer than that, your best bet is to head on over to the DMV and make an inquiry. They should be able to easily track your license and make sure that it is, at least, on its way.

It depends on the state you’re living in.

Some states will give out records freely, whereas others do not allow this information to be open to the public. If you have their driver’s license, and they lived in a state where this information is freely available, you might be able to look up their driving record through that state. But the information may not be current.

Can anyone get my driver’s license or ID photo online?

No. Anything considered part of an Identification Document like a picture, is not available online. It is absolutely for your protection.

What can someone do with a driver’s license photo?

What can someone do with a driver’s license photo

Not much with the photo, but if they steal your license a thief can steal your identity. Many stores all across the US simply require a license to open accounts. If a thief gets ahold of your license, they only have to replace your picture with theirs and now they are you.

This is the reason why a stolen license needs to be reported. Police can then be on the lookout for someone opening accounts in your name, and stop them from giving you a bad name.

What happens when someone steals my identity?

Your bank account will get drained, credit cards will be maxed out, they can open up new accounts in your name and even get a free ride on your medical insurance.

They can even give up your name during an arrest.

This is why keeping your information safe is so important.

How do I know if someone has stolen my identity?

There are a couple of things to look out for:

  • Withdrawals from your bank account you can’t explain.
  • Neither your bills nor your mail is arriving.
  • Shops won’t accept your checks.
  • You’re being called up by debt-collectors for a debt you have no knowledge of.
  • Your medical providers are billing you for services you didn’t use.

You need to file a report with the police as soon as possible and get a case number. This will help you when dealing with banks and retailers and also with any legal ramifications. The faster you can get that case number the faster the law will get on your side.

Place a fraud alert with the National Credit Reporting Agency as well. This will activate a fraud alert which can help to find the person responsible.
